Check out the squashed bird! I cast these up a year ago, and this is the first one that I put on a bike. It took a couple hours to fit it to the fender, but it turned out really well, and Tim didn't have to pay 800 dollars for an original one.


Here are all the parts that make up a 38 front end.



Here it is assembled. This is a one year only fork. It has grease zercs on the outside of the perches and a square broached through the fork stem for the steering dampener anchor pin. I should have a roller tomorrow

I couldn't resist painting tim's emblems and putting them on the bike to see how they looked. They are so cool! I wish all 41 to 46 knuckleheads had nickle plated emblems. Thanks for doing a good job Doug!

I set up the primary on Doug's 36 yesterday. It turned out really well. This is the same clutch that was in my 36 when I first built it, so I know that it works well.


My dad trimmed out the ferner's fenders. We went over the strips with a scotch brite pad to give them a brushed finish. I am very happy with how they turned out and think that the bike looks 100 times better with the strips on.



Here is the other side. I still have to sort out the rear brake and hook up the clutch and shifter, then I am going to fire it up. I will try to take a video of the occasion.

UPDATES!

Jesse and I started to work on this 49 today. The rear fender needed a little repair, so we pulled it off.


Somebody cut the chainguard insert out, so we are going to weld in a different one from another fender and paint it to match. The bike has a lot of other details that need to be gone over as well. It should be a fun project.



I showed up at work early this morning and mounted Tim's exhaust. We just got it back from the painter, and the safest spot to store it was on the bike!




Here are a couple sets of panheads that my daddy has to finish up. They are ready to go together! One set is for a 65 and the other set is for a 48. They are so different from each other.

We picked up tims sheetmetal today. It turned out really well. I love working with Mike Schwaub. He restores muscle cars, and really gets the concept of fixing stuff up.

Check out all the details under this hood. Mike is an obsessive nerd with this stuff. We have a lot in common, he cares as much about all the little details on cars as I do on bikes. I love working with him.






Here is a motor ready to be installed. I kind of feel bad for car guys, they work so hard on the details, and it all gets covered up by a hood.

Happy veterans day

Fed ex showed up today and brought us 5 beautiful speedos from Janus in Canada. He does great work. One of the 38 speedos isn't in the pic. You guys get the idea though.


Tim and Jesse did a big batch of parkerizing yesterday, I did not participate because the fumes would would have made me throw up all over the place. Here are tim's squashed birds, they are probably the only parkerized set I will ever see, they look really cool. I am machining up some rocker arm shafts today, I will post pics later.

TY 46 update

About a year ago I cast up some 41 42 squashed birds. Tim bought a set from me last month and fit them to his fenders. The plan is to parkerize them and paint the inside line. It will look a lot classier than it sounds. I am really excited about Tim's 46, he isn't too concerned about making a correct 46, he is cherry picking the best looking parts from all different years and putting them on his bike.


Here is his handlebar set up. Check out the black 36 steering dampner lever, I don't think I will ever see another black one on a bike. It is pretty cool.

CHROME!!!!

We got a cool package from Pat today. The handlebar lock plates are 36-38, and the oil filter top is the one that we modified for tim in an earlier post. This stuff turned out great!

36 shift arms

we got another batch of 36 shift arms in the mail earlier this week. It is a shame that HD only made these levers for one year. They are such a nice looking piece compared with the 37 to 46 style shift lever.


Tim decided to put one on his 46. I wasn't sure if there would be enough room for the trim strip, but there was. Tim is going to paint his gate and lever black, it should be pretty cool!

Tim's 46 kicker cover

Here is my friend Tim's kicker cover. It had a big old crack in it, and a chunk missing. So we bead blasted it, and set it up on the mill to remove a bunch of material. This step makes sure that there is plenty of room for the weld.


HEre it is all welded up and bored out.

It is almost finished here, it just needs to be ground on a bit.

Tim's oil filter modification.

I am making a little top hat shaped piece to weld into the oem oil filter top in this picture. It has a 1/4 20 blind tapped hole in it. I neglected to take a picture of the finished piece, so you will have to use your imagination.


In this pic I am boring a counter bore into the top for the piece in the previous pic to sit in.



Here is the top after welding, grinding and sanding. This top mimics the 48/49 style of oil filter and screws onto the oil tank, instead of having a bunch of ugly brackets. This is for Tim's 46.




Here is what the inside looks like. I still have to have it polished, but you get the idea.

TY 36 and DB 36 updates

There is probably another twenty hours worth of work to do on this bike, but I couldn't resist seeing how the bike looked with the right tank on it. Man o man this is beautiful!

Tim has been working on his bike lately. The sheet metal should be all fit up by the end of the week.

Tim's frame painted!

Tim got his frame done with the last batch of powder painting. It turned out really well. We are doing a batch of parkerizing at the end of next week, then I get to start on the next batch of 3 bikes. I have been helping my dad with heads all week, ugh. I am looking forward to a change of pace!
