Happy veterans day

Fed ex showed up today and brought us 5 beautiful speedos from Janus in Canada. He does great work. One of the 38 speedos isn't in the pic. You guys get the idea though.


Tim and Jesse did a big batch of parkerizing yesterday, I did not participate because the fumes would would have made me throw up all over the place. Here are tim's squashed birds, they are probably the only parkerized set I will ever see, they look really cool. I am machining up some rocker arm shafts today, I will post pics later.

TY 46 update

About a year ago I cast up some 41 42 squashed birds. Tim bought a set from me last month and fit them to his fenders. The plan is to parkerize them and paint the inside line. It will look a lot classier than it sounds. I am really excited about Tim's 46, he isn't too concerned about making a correct 46, he is cherry picking the best looking parts from all different years and putting them on his bike.


Here is his handlebar set up. Check out the black 36 steering dampner lever, I don't think I will ever see another black one on a bike. It is pretty cool.

Rear Exhaust rocker arm shafts

I have the flu and it sucks. I am just kind of hanging out at the shop trying to keep busy. I took this neat picture of three different styles of rear exhaust rocker shafts. The first one is a 36/37 shaft, the second one is a 38/40 shaft and the third one is a 41 to 47.

1020 steel!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a neat little care package from the foundry on Friday. Does anybody reading this know what these pieces are for?

36 wiring!!!!!

I have been working on wiring doug's 36 for the last day. It is going really well. All the wires are new old stock wires. Early nos wires do not have a rubber insulator, it is just cotton braiding over the copper wire, so they are a smaller diameter.


The generator in this pic is just an old junk one that I am using for setup. I should have the correct rebuilt genny back from Dale Cashman next week sometime. I am just using it for set up. I had to re dye the wires to get their original color back. They look bitchin!!!!



Here is the coil set up. I brought my daddy's original paint 37 over to use as a reference, they are pretty much wired the same, except for a couple details.




The two wires for the taillight and brake light are covered in a clothe woven loom that runs all the way to the tail light. I have been saving that little piece of wire for four years for this bike. I am really happy with the way this is turning out.





Check out the noose wire end, HD used this set up through the middle of 39. It is a classy and finished looking deal.

John's 48 frame

John's 48 frame is a nice 48 only frame, the only modification that had been done to it was the toolbox strap being cut off. This is a really common deal, I would estimate that 70 percent of the frames that we fix up during the coarse of a year need this bracket welded onto them. Check out the square that is on the fifth mount of the transmission.

Now is a good opportunity to check the measurement before it gets welded on for good.

CHROME!!!!

We got a cool package from Pat today. The handlebar lock plates are 36-38, and the oil filter top is the one that we modified for tim in an earlier post. This stuff turned out great!

Bob's 47 getting shipped off

Here is Bob's 47 all shined up and ready to ship out. It is always kind of a sad day when the Truck comes to pick up a project to deliver to the customer. This is one of the best 47s that we have done, and I am really proud of it.

38-40 rear rocker boxes

Those little rings are 38 to 40 rear rocker box spacers. They press into the rear exhaust hole in the rocker box. These little buggers are tough to get out of the rocker box. You usually have to heat them up and pull them out.


Here is the hole that the spacer presses into. The sealer is #2 permatex. It works good, we use it for sealing fittings too.



Here is a pic of the spacer being pressed into the head. After the piece is pressed in, you have to wipe off the excess #2 permatex.




The finished product! This is a really cool detail.

36 shift arms

we got another batch of 36 shift arms in the mail earlier this week. It is a shame that HD only made these levers for one year. They are such a nice looking piece compared with the 37 to 46 style shift lever.


Tim decided to put one on his 46. I wasn't sure if there would be enough room for the trim strip, but there was. Tim is going to paint his gate and lever black, it should be pretty cool!
