ALL Hail South Dakota

This is hail from last night. I couldn't believe how much there was, so I took a picture. The weather station said we got 2 inches of hail. That is insane.

New/Old Pipes for our new 47 knucklehead

Here is a pic of the pipes that tim and I made for the 47 last night. My dad had a set of cruddy shot gun pipes that used to be on a ul that one of his friends owned. I cut them up and figured out how to make them fit on this bike. They are crude, and honestly look like a farm kid made them. I even tried to make my welds look shitty to keep with the theme.


The secret to making an ugly weld like this is to have a big gap to fill in with weld. I can't wait until this starts to rust,.



Here is the rear bracket. I welded a piece of strap stock to a rear crashbar nut, then welded it to the pipe. It is hokey, but it works.

HEre is the finished product outside. I have been working onthe essay contest for the last three days, and making these pipes was the break that I needed. I think the bike looks better with these pipes when compared to the shiny new chrome exhaust that was on it before.

Crazy stamps and Crazy kittens.

Here is some of the gunk that came out of the oil tank on our new 47, I am glad that we cleaned it.


Here is a pic of one of our kittens killing a baby mouse.



This is pretty cool, the front and rear tires on our bike were marked with a red stamp. I can't make out the business name, but the second line reads Watertown SD, which is 90 miles from me, and probably 40 miles from where the bike was found.

This was stamped in the front tire as well. I do not know what the 1.20 signifies, it looks like a price tag, Have any of you guys ever seen this before?

Farmer fixes on an EL

I love square nuts. I put this back on the bike, because it is soo cool!


Check out the awesome repair on the clutch rod, This is a real deal farmer fix.



What was the guy thinking that tightened this screw up. Man o man

our new 47 knucklehead

Here is the bike that my daddy bought yesterday. We have known about this 47el for a fifteen years. It is a real deal South Dakota bike that was originally sold new in aberdeen. It is pretty unmolested, there were a few parts that got changed over the years, but it is still a great bike.

35k on the clock. I cant believe that a bike this old would have so few miles on it.

This is the strangest thing on the bike. Look at the tap for the gas tank mounts that is welded onto the top motor mount. It is curved like a panhead mount. This bike is a really late 47, it is the first late 47 frame that I have seen with this top motor mount on it. All of the other late 47 frames that I have seen have had straight cut gas tank mounts. This is so cool!!!!!! Check out the cool overhead oil line, and the funky wire routing.

Here is a pic of my dad with his new treasure. Unfortunately, the sheet metal had a fresh coat of robins egg blue paint on it. My dad, Tim, Mara and I worked on getting this bike running until 6:30 in the morning, and I am happy to say that we got it fired up 12 and a half hours after my dad brought it home. I painted the tanks with self etching primer and threw a bobbed rear fender on it, just so we could ride it around and have fun with it. Our long term plans include are to paint the fenders skyway blue and make them look like original paint, and put a set of old chrome gas tanks on the bike. We are going to deck it out and make it the gawdiest 47 on the planet. Stay Tuned! It is going to be an awesome machine.

Warren's 64

Here is a pic of a 64 that my dad, Tim and I just finished. The happy guy in the picture is Warren, He has owned this bike for 26 years. We went through it for him and made it just the way he wanted it. This bike is bitchin! I really enjoy riding duo glides, after riding this bike. They are nice!!





Here is a pic of tim working on the duo glide. I am not really sure what he is doing, but he is doing a great job at it.

This is one of my favorite pictures of this bike. This thing turned out stellar. We started with a motor, frame, fork and gas tanks and made the bike look like it had been together all of its life.



Here is a pic of a shiny 38 and a patina 38 that my dad and I did together. The bikes were within 5 numbers of each other. It is statistacily amazing that they bothe ended up in our shop at the same time.

More sturgis pics

My favorite part of Sturgis 2009 was the flat track out at the Broken Spoke County Line. The whole campground was the coolest place in Sturgis. Thursday night, Matt Walksler and I spent a couple hours polishing up our flattrack skills on our knuckleheads.


We were probably going 35-40 miles per hour. This was the best part of sturgis 2009. I loved every minute of the flat track.



Matt Walksler was in the lead the whole time. His bike has more ground clearance, and he is a good rider, it was tough to keep up with him.

Here is a pic of Scott English, Mara and I in Sturgis. Scott rode his 36 el from Maryland to Sturgis and back. that is over 3600 miles. I thought that Stanley Miller and I were the only guys that used their first year knucks. Scott is the coolest!!!!1

sturgis update

I've been at sturgis since yesterday. Attendance seems to be down, it is awesome. The broken spoke county line is amazing, jay allen built a circle track. Kevin baas and I were racing around it on knuckleheads at 3 in the morning yesterday. We are going to do a knucklehead race later on in the week. I will get some pics for you guys.
