John's 48 frame

t

John's 48 frame is a nice 48 only frame, the only modification that had been done to it was the toolbox strap being cut off. This is a really common deal, I would estimate that 70 percent of the frames that we fix up during the coarse of a year need this bracket welded onto them. Check out the square that is on the fifth mount of the transmission.

Now is a good opportunity to check the measurement before it gets welded on for good.

Here is the finished product! Just like original.

CHROME!!!!

We got a cool package from Pat today. The handlebar lock plates are 36-38, and the oil filter top is the one that we modified for tim in an earlier post. This stuff turned out great!

Bob's 47 getting shipped off

Here is Bob's 47 all shined up and ready to ship out. It is always kind of a sad day when the Truck comes to pick up a project to deliver to the customer. This is one of the best 47s that we have done, and I am really proud of it.

Here it is getting loaded up into the truck

Strapped down and ready to go!

38-40 rear rocker boxes

Those little rings are 38 to 40 rear rocker box spacers. They press into the rear exhaust hole in the rocker box. These little buggers are tough to get out of the rocker box. You usually have to heat them up and pull them out.

Here is the hole that the spacer presses into. The sealer is #2 permatex. It works good, we use it for sealing fittings too.

Here is a pic of the spacer being pressed into the head. After the piece is pressed in, you have to wipe off the excess #2 permatex.

The finished product! This is a really cool detail.

36 shift arms

we got another batch of 36 shift arms in the mail earlier this week. It is a shame that HD only made these levers for one year. They are such a nice looking piece compared with the 37 to 46 style shift lever.

Tim decided to put one on his 46. I wasn't sure if there would be enough room for the trim strip, but there was. Tim is going to paint his gate and lever black, it should be pretty cool!

Tim's 46 kicker cover

Here is my friend Tim's kicker cover. It had a big old crack in it, and a chunk missing. So we bead blasted it, and set it up on the mill to remove a bunch of material. This step makes sure that there is plenty of room for the weld.

HEre it is all welded up and bored out.
Here is a pic of the od being cut.

It is almost finished here, it just needs to be ground on a bit.

36 progress!!

Tim and I worked late last night and mounted the front fender on Doug's 36. This bike is so perfect. I am in love with it.

Check out the radiused end on the fender mounting screw, this is a cool detail.

Whoa! This is the nicest bike that I have ever worked on.

HERO!

Here is a picture that my good friend Panhead Billy sent me from the road. Billy is one of my heros, he has been living on his silver panhead since 96 or 97. He just rides around and takes everything in. He rode all over the midwest with us last summer during our pre war knucklehead run. He has always kept in contact with me since. It is always a treat to learn where he is at in the country or where he is going. I think that everybody who owns a motorcycle has wondered what it would be like to live off of the bike and travel year round, well-- Billy is doing it. He is one of the coolest guys that I have the pleasure of knowing, if you ever have the chance to talk to him, you need to.

Rear leg fix.

This was welded to the inside of a 46/47 rear springer leg. I guess some chopper guy thought it was a good idea to bolt his fender to the rear leg. It was probably a really clean custom deal, but the new owner of the fork didn't want this set up, so I returned the rear leg back to stock.

Here is a pic of the rear leg after some metal finishing. It turned out pretty good.

wing nuts ready to plate!!!!

Here are some 5-16 18 wing nuts that we just finished up and are getting ready to ship off for cad plating. The pre war wing nuts were brass and the post war version was steel. These are really nice. They have rounded edges just like originals. There are some other guys making them out of pot metal, and the threads strip out pretty quickly.
