Mike Riding shots

Mike and I went out on the town so he could practice handshifting old bikes. I lent him my old clunker.


We went to the Palm Garden in Aberdeen and they had amazing food. I had a bowl of soup and the chef made us this awesome fruit plate.



We did some riding shots later on in the day. Since Mike was taking the pics, he couldn't really be in them, so after we were done with the group, the two of us went out on the bobbers, and I snapped these pics.




Here he is on the silver bike. I am not the best photographer, sorry guys, I guess you get the idea though.

starting up a 46 knucklehead for the first time!!!

Gettin ready for ohio!!!

Well my dad and I are getting ready to ride to Wauseon next week with a couple friends. According to this map it is "a little ways" away from south dakota.


I needed a new helmet, so I got one. I don't like windshields, so I usually get a full face helmet. I picket this one out because of the bitchin robocop sunglasses feature. Check out the pic below.



If I ever have my own action figure, I would like it to have a helmet like this lol.

WH64 fender repair part 1

Here is how a fender seam isn't supposed to look. IT is all wavy and beaten thin after years of abuse. I had to build up the fender flip section with material and grind everything smooth.


Since the original metal is so thin and smooth, we made a piece of tin to used as a backer for the weld.

In this pic the fender flap has been built up and the tin piece is still on the fender. This gets ground off.

First you grind the inside, then remove the top piece.

Here is a pic of the fender. I blued it and scribed a line where the line is supposed to be. This is a really good fix that my friend Larry Medwig taught me.

WH64 rear fender fix part 2

Sorry for the iffy photo guys, My camera skills are lacking. I am trying to show you the nice even line between the flip and the fender. Warren uses his fender flap, and wanted a chrome hinge, so the paint wouldn't chip. This is the stroked 64 that we have been working on.

Here is a pretty good pic. Mike did a great job of painting the fenders, they are as smooth as glass, have great rivet definition and the body work is set up right. He is a good painter.

36 EL cha cha changes

Here is my bike after a two day marathon of inspection. I put some flanders bars on it and put a set of bigger 37 basket weave saddlebags on it. Michael Paquette made them, and they are awesome. Good job Michael. I am going test riding as soon as I am done with this post.


Front 3/4, I changed the front end springs to a different set up. Mike Wilson told me about how he used to set them up back in the 50s, so I figured I would give it a try. Check out the pics below to see what I changed.



Here is the correct 36 to 38 set up. Curved inner springs on the bottom, and 36 to 38 straight top springs. As per Mike Wilson's advice, the top springs get removed, this was the most painful part of the switch over for me. I spent 700 dollars on reproducing these early inner springs when I was 19, and now I don't have them in my bike lol.




Here you can see the parts that are going back into it. The new lower springs are sidecar springs and much longer than the solo version.





I also inspected both wheel hubs to see how everything was wearing in or out. These hubs were re surfaced by Lee Armitage. He spray welds them and regrinds them back to standard size. On one of the forums somebody was talking about how this was such a bad fix, and that the spray welding will come loose. I had to check my wheels out just for piece of mind, after 4,000 miles they are as beautiful and smooth as when I first got them back from Lee.

My Daddy's 39 after a 5200 mile trip!

My dad got home from his month long vacation on thursday night. He put over 5200 miles on his knucklehead in a little less than a month. The only problem that he had was a bolt coming loose that held his rear view mirror on. This bike is awesome!

chino rear fender

Here is the rear fender that we are using for the chino bike, it was painted blue and purple and had red pinstripes---ick!

Here it is after a couple coats of self etching primer. It is a real deal 49 fender, so it will work well for what we are doing.
